The Arts Learning Area at 91ÊÓƵ is a vibrant and dynamic community where creativity, collaboration and critical thinking thrive. Through programs in Dance, Drama, Media, Music, Photography and Visual Arts, students are encouraged to explore ideas, express themselves with confidence, and develop both technical skill and imaginative capacity. Engagement in the Arts nurtures independent thinking, teamwork and thoughtful responses to the world around us.
In Years 7 and 8, students rotate through a range of Arts disciplines, building a strong foundation of creative skills, knowledge and processes. This breadth of experience allows students to discover new interests, develop resilience through creative challenge, and gain insight into the ways artistic expression shapes culture and community. Our Arts classrooms are welcoming and inspiring spaces where students can experience success in diverse ways, build self-belief, and strengthen their communication, performance and self-expression in supportive environments.
Our Music program supports students continuing from the IMSS program in primary school, as well as those who study privately and elect Music on enrolment. These students follow a modified rotation in Years 7 and 8, allowing them to continue developing their instrumental practice while remaining actively engaged in the wider Arts curriculum. Performance, ensemble work and musicianship form an integral part of the program, fostering discipline, teamwork and a strong sense of belonging within our musical community.
From Year 9 onwards, students can choose specialised Arts electives that allow them to further develop their technical skills and conceptual understanding. As students progress, the connections within and between Arts and other disciplines become increasingly evident, encouraging them to apply their learning in creative and innovative ways. Whether choreographing a dance performance, producing a media project, curating a photographic series, performing on stage, playing in a band, or developing a visual arts portfolio, students refine their creative voice, expand their capacity for expressing ideas that matter to them, and build confidence in their identity – developing a range of skills and abilities transferable across other Learning Areas.
In Year 10, students may continue their studies in Arts, selecting courses that prepare them for ATAR, General, or Certificate pathways in Arts in Years 11 and 12. A 91ÊÓƵ Arts education equips students with highly portable skills and values appreciated in many industries, including care, curiosity, collaboration, creativity, communication, independent thinking, perseverance and self-reflection. At 91ÊÓƵ, studying The Arts empowers students – not only for future study and careers, but for meaningful participation in the creative and cultural life of their communities – now and into the future.
